ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Adrian Varady is a gifted jazz drummer, composer, and vocalist, born into a Hungarian Roma family in Slovakia. Largely self-taught, he began performing publicly at age 9 and made his international debut at the 47th Montreux Jazz Festival in 2013, where Quincy Jones praised his extraordinary musicality and deep sense of groove.

Since then, Adrian has appeared on some of the most prestigious stages worldwide including Blue Note New York, Ronnie Scott’s (London), Jazz à Vienne, North Sea Jazz Festival, Riga Ritmi Festival, Porgy & Bess (Vienna), and Wolf Trap (Washington, D.C.), where he opened for George Benson. He has also opened for Gregory Porter in Bratislava and toured extensively with the Varady Trio alongside guitarist Andreas Varady.

Adrian has collaborated with a wide range of acclaimed artists, including Jean Toussaint, Danny Grissett, Doug Weiss, Alfredo Rodriguez, Justin Kauflin, Patty Austin, Nikki Yanofsky, Paulinho da Costa, Peter Erskine, Michael Rodriguez,Dezron Douglas, Jonathan Blake, and many others. He has performed in projects and masterclasses alongside legendary drummer Peter Erskine and participated in workshops with bassist Scott Colley.
In the studio, Adrian contributed to The Quest (Resonance Records, 2018), Sunrise (2024), and Maja Jaku’s 2025 album, recorded at Bunker Studios in NYC — ,ere he performed both as a percussionist and composer. He alsis also featured several recordings as a sideman with his brother Andreas Varady, including recent collaborative projects in Austria.

As a model student at JAM MUSIC LAB University in Vienna, where Rector Marcus Ratka awarded him a full four-year scholarship, Adrian frequently represents the institution at major events and showcases featuring their top talent. He has performed for the Mayor of Vienna at the Science Ball and. Hes familiar presence on Austria's most esteemed jazz stages including Porgy & Bess, Jazzland, Stockwerk Jazz (Graz), Roter Salon, Konzerthaus Vienna, Frau Mayer Zwe, and the Vienna Jazz Festival.

Adrian also gives back through workshops and mentorship, especially to young musicians from marginalized communities. His artistry is deeply rooted in his Roma heritage and shaped by a powerful personal journey — from poverty and discrimination to international recognition.
