Musikerpool um den Australier Mark Lane und den Peruaner Edgar Lleuya
Kindred Spirit, the band, is a group of individuals from very different musical and cultural backgrounds, who have had some connection to drone, overtone, or intercultural music over the years. The idea is to harmonise differences, that plurality and individualism should be the pieces of the cultural puzzle that fit and bind us rather than cause friction and separation.
The band does not belong to any scene, but because it is strongly based on yidaki, then it becomes part of the puzzle that makes up the dij festival.
The members include Edgar Lleuya from Peru (a horse-whisperer by trade) on various percussion, sounds and vocals, Antonia Wernig (known already for her appearance last year at the festival) on the soothing sound of Uillean pipes, Albin Paulus who is accomplished on many different bagpipes and is maybe the only person who plays solo Jews Harp (Maultrummel) in a Symphony orchestra, Sandor Rigo from Hungary who has recently been a soloist on saxaphone in the Hungarian Symphony orchestra but has been a part of many cross-cultural music projects, and Mark Lane from Australia (a "heilpraktiker" by trade in Australia) on Yidaki, vocals, overtone singing, guitar, and secondary percussion.
Kindred Spirit is about, despite our differences, we are united in spirit as brothers and sisters.
